From Beta to Launch: Polishing MEZR for the Market

After nearly a year of development, we had a robust product that worked well in controlled environments. But to succeed in the real world, we needed to put MEZR through its paces with a wider audience. In July 2024, we launched our beta program with 100 contractors across the country.

Beta Testing Insights

The beta phase was invaluable for identifying edge cases and usability issues we hadn't anticipated:

  • Contractors in very bright, sunny areas like Arizona needed additional calibration options
  • Users wanted integration with popular estimating software they were already using
  • The ability to collaborate with team members on larger projects was frequently requested
  • Android users wanted feature parity with the iOS version

We methodically addressed these issues, prioritizing them based on impact and development complexity. This phase taught us that building a great product isn't just about the technology - it's about creating a solution that seamlessly fits into your users' existing workflows.

Performance Optimization

One major focus during this period was optimizing the app's performance. We reduced the initial scan time by 40% through algorithm improvements and implemented a progressive scanning approach that provided useful results even before the complete scan was finished.

Battery life was another key area for improvement. By optimizing how we used the LiDAR sensor and implementing more efficient data processing, we reduced battery consumption by nearly 30%.

Expanding the Team

As we prepared for launch, we expanded our team to include dedicated customer support specialists, additional developers, and a marketing team. We recognized that building a great product was only half the battle - we also needed to effectively communicate its value to our target market.

Final Polishing

The last two months before launch were focused on polish and refinement:

  1. We redesigned the onboarding experience to quickly demonstrate value to new users
  2. Implemented a streamlined subscription model based on user feedback
  3. Created detailed documentation and video tutorials
  4. Established a robust error reporting system to quickly identify and address issues
  5. Conducted final security audits and privacy reviews

Throughout this process, we maintained a close dialogue with our beta users, who had become our biggest advocates. Many of them provided testimonials and agreed to be featured in case studies, which proved invaluable for our launch marketing.

Launch Day and Beyond

On March 1, 2025, we officially launched MEZR to the public. The response exceeded our expectations, with over 500 downloads in the first week alone. But we know this is just the beginning.

We've established a roadmap for the next 12 months that includes new features like AI-assisted material estimation, integration with additional third-party services, and enhanced collaboration tools for teams.

The journey from idea to launch has been challenging, rewarding, and educational. We've built not just a product, but a solution that's already changing how contractors work. And we're just getting started.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey - especially our early users who believed in our vision and helped shape MEZR into what it is today.
